CMHS cheer celebrated at Nationals!

CMHS cheer celebrated at  Nationals!

The second weekend in February is arguably the most important weekend every year to the nations top cheer programs. Teams from 35 states and 15 countries head to Orlando, Florida to see if they can win the title of champion. This year the Costa Mesa High School cheerleaders came  and met up with over 11,000 cheerleaders from 564 schools, and they came  already as champions. The Mustangs main purpose this year at Nationals was to be honored and accept their award for winning the American School Spirit Award. This award names the top overall cheer program in the nation. It recognizes the contributions made in community service, academics, school spirit and cheer skills. This is the most prestigious award in the cheer world.  It is an honor to win this award and a privilege, and unheard of to ever win it twice, that is until this year when Costa Mesa High School was awarded it , again!  Back in 2009 the Mustangs were honored with their first award.

Winning the award is  filled with many perks as well. Attendance at the annual  private VIP dinner for the coach, where she was presented with a plaque and an incredible evening in celebration of the American School Spirit Award  winner and administrators of the year. Then the team was whisked away for interviews to air on ESPN and also film a spot for Clean and Clear, a major sponsor of the competition. The next day the team had special VIP seating to watch the amazing performances and then brought on the main competition floor to accept the award. Presented by Jeff Webb, founder and CEO of Varsity brands. Varsity  Brands put together an amazing video highlighting the team and each  of the girls were presented with their own crystal trophy, as well as a team banner and trophy.  Exiting with a standing ovation, claps and handshakes from other teams and coaches finished off an amazing experience.

After that first trip  to Nationals accepting the  American School Spirit Award, the team was determined to compete at Nationals.  In 2012 they were 13th in the nation, in 2013 6th in the nation and now in 2014 they rank 4th in the nation for their performance in the game day championships.  The team was at first not going to compete this year, due to lack of funding but after winning the school spirit award they decided to at least compete in 1 division, though they qualified to also compete in 2 others- Large Varsity  non tumbling and World School. They went big this year, too- competing in the Super Varsity tumbling division.

The team also got to enjoy 4 days of park hopper at Disney World.

Sundays competition went great

CMHS took 1st place in stunt group-- by a very large margin

We took 2nd place in our competition routine by a small margin. We did great, the girls had an amazing performance!

We also had 4 girls named to the all state team, Laura, Margarita, Allie and McKenzie

The best news is that due to our strong performance we got 2 FULL PAID BIDS to the Best of the West competition on March 16 at the Pyramid at long beach-- this is a nationals like comp and we get to compete for free!!!

But first game day at Nationals!!!!
